I am finally updating my Tumblr with some fresh info because of my wonderful girlfriend. You should check out her blog at “http://hollyweird101.tumblr.com/”

Ok!

I have been playing a lot of fighting games recently and I have to say they are a blast. There is a lot of convenience in being able to turn it on and play for a short time and just shut it down without having to worry about saving or finishing something (not that this keeps me from playing for hours, just ask my girlfriend). If you have any friends who like to play them as well, it really makes the games crazy fun. Even though now we have the magic of the internet to play people all over the world, there is something very pleasing in knowing the person you are beating is sitting right next to you.

Alrighty! On to the games!

I got BlazBlue Calamity Trigger about this time last year (can’t remember exactly) and I can say it is one of the freshest fighters I have played in a long time. If you have played any of the Guilty Gear series then this game will be very familiar because it is from the same developer! The characters are all very unique and play extremely different. This doesn’t necessarily mean they are hard to play, but if you are not a fighting game veteran it is probably good to pick your favorite and stick to them for awhile. The higher end, complex combos can be pretty difficult, but you can still have a lot of fun with this game even if you don’t know them. They have also just released the first new character via DLC and there are more to come.

I also got Super Street Fighter 4 when it was first released. This game is lots of frustrating fun. If you have never played a Street Fighter game this might be a challenge to pick up. It takes a lot of practice to get used to the way you have to time your attacks. It can be really brutal trying to rush into playing online. There are 35 characters in all, which is a pretty big roster for a fighting game. Some of the characters have similar move-sets, but they all have their own unique twist and the game is impressively balanced for so many characters.

There are a lot of good websites and places you can read up on helpful tips and tricks that apply to most fighting games in general. One of my favorites is www.sonichuricane.com they have loads of great information. I would also suggest looking up VesperArcade on youtube, he has tons of videos that have some extremely useful information!

I would suggest both of these games if you are interested in playing some fighting games that are lots of fun for just casual play and if you are interested in mastering the mechanics and the high level combos. These games are both fantastic!

This is an interesting article on Heavy Rain and how it has sold really well. Usually games that try and go in a new direction but lean heavily toward a style of gameplay, in this case quick time events, don’t have much of a chance of survival. I’m very happy to see this is not the case because I think developers need to expand their reach and try new things, but not go out of business because if it. If we don’t have innovation we are going to be playing the same re-hashed games for a long time. I give props to companies like Quantic Dream,Team ICO and thatgamecompany for trying something different and doing it well.
If you are still unsure about Heavy Rain I would suggest picking up a copy of fahrenheit and giving it a try. Fahrenheit is like the schizophrenic father of Heavy Rain and if you play it, it will make sense where they tested out their gameplay and story elements for Heavy Rain. I enjoyed Fahrenheit even though the story and game was like watching the matrix while candy flipping, I suggest picking up a cheap copy for PC/PS2/Xbox.
I just recently got my copy of Heavy Rain and have only been able to play the first 5 minutes so I don’t have anything to report on it, but I would suggest anyone to give this game a try. I will report back later with an actual review of the game.

A sweet accidental photo I got of my friend Sam Jones, who was getting into costume to be slain by Malcolm McDowell on screen. I always said he was an evil bastard.

Project - 365 #6

Went with my girlfriend to Apple Valley and stayed with her parents for the weekend. I didn’t have any internet, just beer, BBQ, and some photos. Here are a few that I was messing around with. I seem a little too obsessed with B&W with color. Apature 3 is too much fun!

Project 356 # 5.

Helped my girlfriend with a short she was shooting for her reel today. I got to play the role of boom operator and when we were on breaks camera thief. This was one of the shots I took today. I don’t think is a very interesting photo, but that is why I am doing this anyway.

Enjoy
